[ followups directed to r.g.c.q.misc ]
The two new Quake groups, rec.games.computer.quake.playing and .servers
passed the Usenet vote successfully and have been created on the 15th of
May by the moderator of news.announce.newgroups.
However, it will take a few weeks before these groups are available
everywhere, because some news administrators do not process the newgroup
control messages automatically and will only create or remove groups when
they read their mail. Although most Usenet sites created the new Quake
groups a few hours after the control message was sent, I understand that
it could take up to a month on some sites.
This is why I am suggesting that, until the 15th of June, all Quake players
who want to post a message to r.g.c.q.playing or r.g.c.q.servers and want
to be sure that most readers will be able to get their article should
cross-post their message to r.g.c.q.misc too. This will ensure that the
articles will be well propagated and thus available to most Quake players.
After one month (or maybe a bit more, if you think this is better), we can
stop cross-posting between r.g.c.q.playing or r.g.c.q.servers and .misc,
because most sites should have created the new groups by then. Thus each
group will have its own topic, which was indeed the reason why the new
groups were created.
This is only a suggestion and you are of course free to start or stop
cross-posting whenever you want, but I think that cross-posting during one
month is the best compromise for propagating the articles while the new
groups are being created and avoiding a duplication of resources once the
groups are available almost everywhere.
For those who don't have the new groups yet, the taglines for the two
additional Quake groups are given below. I suggest that you get in touch
with your news administrator if you still cannot get these groups after a
few days (the e-mail address of your local news admin should be "news",
"newsmaster" or "usenet"). These groups have been created according to
the Usenet guidelines and they passed the Usenet vote (the results were
published on the 10th of May). If your admin wants the charters of these
groups or wants to check the results of the vote, you can show him/her the
official results of the vote, from this URL (includes the charters, etc.):
