Origins' 96 To Host Worlds' Largest Computer Games Tournaments



June 19, 1996 (Seattle, Wash.) -- Origins '96, the largest pure game


expo and fair in the United States, will also be host to the worlds


largest computer game tournament event, July 4-7 at the Columbus


Convention Center, Columbus Ohio. Over 14 computer games companies will


sponsor more than 40 individual computer game tournaments to take place


over the fourth of July weekend.



Tournaments include Duke Nukem 3D, Decent II, Warcraft II and the


Entire Doom family. In total, 50 Pentium PCs and 10 Macintosh


computers, will be networked together to allow participants


multi-player versions each games. Participants will also be able to


test out Virtual Reality Systems. By placing a Virtual Reality Helmet


on their head, player can immerse themselves in a completely


interactive environment giving them an unparalleled feeling of being


"in" the game.



"Origins has something for the whole family," says Gary Smith, Director


of Andon Unlimited. "It doesn't matter what type of game you enjoy


playing; computer games, board games or cards games we have something


for the gamer in everyone.



The Ohio National Guard will also sponsor a tournament featuring its


Military Arcade Computer System, (MACS). MACS is the National Guards


computerized firing range trainer. Equipped with a mock M16 assault


rifle, the weapons fires bullets of light at a television screen as a


computerized targets pop up.



We are featuring the hottest computer games on the market," said Mark


Middleton, Vice President of DM2 Solutions. "We have games of many


types from adventure and sports, to strategy and flight simulators,


even computer pinball and casino will be available."



All tournaments require on site registration. Admission is $15.00 for


a one-day or $40.00 for a four day access/gaming badge and includes


access to all computer tournaments. Spectator passes are available for

The Origins '96 International Game Expo and Fair is owned by the Game


Manufactures Association (GAMA). Listing virtually every major game


company as a member, GAMA is the national trade organization for the


adventure gaming company industry. Andon Unlimited is a division of


Wizards of the Coast, specializing in convention and trade show


management. DM2 Solutions is a Software Development Firm located in


Hilliard, Ohio and is managing the computer game tournaments and the


multimedia events at Origins under contract from Andon Unlimited.

GAMER INFORMATION!



4 to 6 Tournaments will be played continuously from 10 am to 1 am in


the Columbus Convention Centers Main Halls. Multi-Player means players


will face 1 to 7 other live opponents on a network. Game Tournaments


and their exact Times will be posted on the web in a few more days.


Players can sign up right at the convention, no pre-registration is


necessary. Most games will be single elimination 2 or 3 round


tournaments. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prizes will be awarded in all


tournaments.
