Greetings Quake/SGI fans,
I have started the Quake Utilities for SGI IRIX web site.
It is my attempt to centralize Quake utilities that are (or will be)
available for SGI IRIX machines. I offer up the space on this server to
any useful IRIX programs/ports for Quake. If you have information on
IRIX utils, ports, etc. I would love to hear it. There is only one thing
I ask for your help in: compilation of these utilities. I do not have
the SGI IDO, so my compilation abilities are weakened quite a bit! :o)
Is anyone is considering a port of Quake's executable to SGI yet? If so,
drop me a line, and we may be able to coordinate something through this
site. I cannot offer porting expertise, but I can offer a means of open
communication -- the web forum software I created -- as well as network
resources and space.
The web site is located at:
http://www.webcom.com/phantasm/QUSI/
Since Quake is new, the utils for it are newer still; that should pick
up soon, though. QUSI currently offers the SGI compiled binaries for
qbsp/light (still working on getting a copy of vis compiled). If you
think you have something useful related to SGI and Quake, please stop
by.
Since I am posting this to the SGI newsgroups as well, I will include a
brief Quake description:
Quake is a fully 3 dimensional action game created by id Software
(creators of Doom). The true 3D nature of Quake and its levels lends
itself well, I feel, to SGI's hardware and resources, so I believe SGI
utilities will be forthcoming, including: level editors, modelling
software, conversion utilities, and even a port of the main Quake
executable from DOS to SGI (though this might have to be done by id
Software, if at all, much like the Doom SGI version).
Quake will allow things to be done in "worlds" that have never been done
before. If your interests extend into 3D, VRML, perspectives, physics,
etc., then you will probably at least want to try Quake (currently runs
optimally on a DOS Pentium machine).
Please see the following URL for Quake download information:
http://www.idsoftware.com/dlquake.html
Thanks for your time.
P.S. I want to thank James Black who was kind enough to compile
qbsp/light for me, to allow me to truly get started with this project.
