(Cross-posted to alt.config, alt.games, alt.games.quake,

rec.games.computer.quake.*) [...and followups to alt.config - mod ]

I would like to propose the creation of the newsgroup

alt.games.duke3d. Its purpose would be the discussion of the new

Apogee/3D Realms game, Duke Nukem 3D. Topics might be game play

techniques, secrets, level editing, etc.

I belive the creation of this group is justified by the amount

of traffic concerning Duke 3D in the rec.games.computer.quake.*.

While some of the discussion is comparison of the two games, most of it

is off-topic. There is no specific place for people to discuss this

topic and it becomes an irritant to those who have no interest in being

part of the discussion.

Aside from that, this is a major release by a leading software

company and has generated considerable interest. People want to

know where to download the shareware version, where to buy the

registered version, where to get game specs, editors, etc. A copy of

this message will be posted in the aforementioned newsgroups, so that

others may post here with their ideas.

I have not posted a newgroup message to create this group (nor

do I know how at this point) and would like any ideas before

proceeding. Would a larger hierarchy be necessary? For example,

alt.games.duke3d.announce

alt.games.duke3d.playing

alt.games.duke3d.editing

alt.games.duke3d.misc

or would alt.games.duke3d be sufficient?

Thanks to all in advance for your considerations.
