After a short discussion on the quake-proposal mailing list, it was decided
that a newsgroup dedicated to Quake-C would be very useful. It will provide
a place where programmers can exchange technical infos about Quake-C, some
tips and tricks, and short exceprts of source code. Quake-C is currently
discussed in r.g.c.q.editing and on the quake-c mailing list, which is a bit
overloaded (up to 100 messages per day, more than 400 subscribers). The new
newsgroup will be a more efficient way to share the informations about
Quake-C and will be very useful for those who had to unsubscribe from the
mailing list because of the high traffic.
The Request For Discussion (RFD) for rec.games.computer.quake.quake-c has
been submitted to the moderator of news.announce.newgroups for approval. It
should appear in the newsgroups within a few days. It will be cross-posted
to r.g.c.q.announce and r.g.c.q.editing, but the discussion about the
proposed group will take place in news.groups only. If the discussion is
positive, a Call For Votes (CFV) will be posted after one month, and then it
will be time to vote for the new group.
If the new group is created, r.g.c.q.editing will be more focused on model-
and level-editing, while r.g.c.q.quake-c will contain the Quake-C discussions.
Until then, the best place to discuss Quake-C is r.g.c.q.editing.
