I believe the "Aftershock" web site is working on implementing an

improved Quake Server Status list (with the help of Steve Jankowski).

In the meantime, I have a pseudo-tracker of sorts running which you can

access by fingering me. It checks a list of about 25 "known" servers

(mostly those listed at Aftershock), which I will attempt to keep fresh.

I prefer it to checking aftershock (in its current state), because it

lists number of players, and only shows what's actually currenlty up.

Plus, it updates every 5 minutes.

It uses Steve Jankowski's "qstat" (distribution available at

ftp://activesw.com/pub/quake/qstat1.0.tar.Z), so I really can't take much

credit (I'm just cycling qstat and formatting the output).

!! Please don't implement some "continuously updating" thing that fingers me

repeatedly, or I'll have to shut it off to avoid the traffic. Install

and run qstat yourself if you "need" that capability. Besides, this is

only temporary until Aftershock finishes theirs, which will probably be

better.

Enjoy,
