We considered several different ways to have the contest:

1.using existing id textures.this requires id's approval and they get

to decide if the level is up to their standards

for sale, after all it was their time and effort to create the

textures, so you can't blame them.

2.ignoring the flames and inviting lawsuit by just grabbing what

ever comes from the user. some designers simply don't know it

is not legal to use id's textures for commercial products. this

goes against our intent for the contest and our company.

3.requiring new art as well as level design. this seemed to us

as the best of the best. level design is with poor artwork is

not worth playing, so we wanted to reward the 'complete'

designer.

My apologies for those who thought we are trying to hide the CD part. We

thought it was pretty obvious from the rules, but then we've been

working on this for some time so we probably should have had a few

Quakers review it first!

We have redone the home page to bring this out as well as ask for

opinions about other ways we might change future contests so that

designers would really enjoy the contest.
