Finalists will Compete at E3 Expo for Grand Prize of Ferrari Sports Car and

Ultimate Game System from Intergraph

Intergraph, id Software, Rendition, and ClanRing to Sponsor QUAKE

Tournament

HUNTSVILLE, AL, March 4, 1997 — Intergraph Computer Systems and Rendition,

Inc. today announced that they have teamed with id Software and ClanRing to

sponsor a high-stakes tournament for players of the popular game, QUAKE.

The tournament will feature one-on-one competition over the Internet, and

will be organized and managed from the ClanRing website. Sixteen finalists

in the tournament will win an all-expense paid trip to Atlanta, GA., where

they will compete in a playoff deathmatch at the E3 Entertainment Expo, to

be held in Atlanta on June 19-21.

The stakes are high! The grand prize of the tournament will be a Ferrari

328 GTS, donated by id Software's John Carmack, and Intergraph's Ultimate

Game System: a TD20 with 32MB of RAM, a 2GB hard drive, 8xCDROM, and 17"

monitor. The TD20 will include the very latest Intense 3D graphics

accelerator which delivers the hottest 3D graphics performance for QUAKE

and other 3D games. The second, third and fourth place winners will also

win an Intergraph Ultimate Game System as well as $5,000, $2,000, and

$1,000 cash, respectively.

John Carmack, the co-founder of id Software and creator of the game QUAKE,

will give away one of his four Ferraris as the grand prize: a red 1987

Ferrari 328 GTS with a Norwood Autocraft turbo conversion. According to

Carmack, donating the Ferrari is his way of giving something back to the

game enthusiasts that have brought him success. "I bought my first Ferrari

after the success of Wolfenstein-3D," said Carmack. "DOOM and QUAKE have

bought three more. Four Ferraris is too many for me. Rather than sell off

one of them or stick it in a warehouse, I'm going to give it back to the

gamers that brought it to me in the first place. The king of this QUAKE

deathmatch is going to get a really cool crown."

"This is the biggest, hottest tournament ever for PC gamers, and we

encourage all QUAKE players to give it their best shot," said Wade

Patterson, president, Intergraph Computer Systems. "Even if you don't win

the Ferrari, you might drive home the Ferrari of game systems, the

Intergraph TD20 with Intense3D graphics technology."

Jay Eisenlohr, vice president of marketing for Rendition, Inc. states,

"We're honored to have been selected as a sponsor for this ultimate QUAKE

challenge. QUAKE fans have been some of our biggest supporters and helped

proliferate our Vérité 2D/3D processor as the best all-around game

accelerator on the PC platform."

Details of Tournament

The first stage of the tournament will be from April 14 - May 2, 1997.

Contestants may join in at any time during this stage, and there is no

limit to the number of matches played. A system of numerical rankings is

used in which contestants' rankings are adjusted per win or loss based on

the ranking of their opponent. In other words, defeating an opponent with a

higher ranking earns more points than defeating a lower-ranked player. The

system is designed to reward higher risk and skill levels, while

discouraging the accumulation of wins by playing only inexperienced

players. Victors from the first stage will participate in the second stage

-- a single elimination tournament -- from which the best sixteen players

will survive. The sixteen finalists will then fly to Atlanta for the

grand-prize deathmatch.

Tournament Registration and Contact Information

QUAKE players who want to participate in the tournament can register online

at http://www.mpog.com/e3signup.html, anytime between March 24 and May 2,

1997. Participation is limited to US residents 18 years of age and older,

other rules are posted on the Website.
