I've finished a VERY early version of Quake for Linux (xquake) that
supports 3rd person view (like Tomb Raider, Crusin' USA, etal.) You can
position the camera behind the player and see him as he runs around
capping people.
Anyway, if anyone's interested in trying it, you can download it from
