I am writing about some information I am sure other Quake users will
find helpful. There is currently an a cd on the market that has new levels
for Quake. It is called AfterShock. Unfortunately there are some rather
serious bugs in the cd. On the second episode the game will lock after a
player exits the first level. This is because the first level was told to
move to a level that does not exist. The level names proceed as dmas01.bsp,
dmas02.bsp, dmas03.bsp, etc. The first level was accidentally told to look
for a level called asdm02.bsp instead of dmas02.bsp. If users go into
their Quake/as/maps directory and rename the level dmas02.bsp to asdm02.bsp
the game will proceed as intended.
Also the level launcher will not support the four new episodes for play
over the internet. Fortunately I have created a small file that will enable
players to play the new levels over the internet. It is called "q95as.bat",
and I have attached it to the end of this message. Simply copy this file into
your Quake directory and launch the q95as.bat from Windows to play all
AfterShock episodes over the internet just as you would normal Quake. If
users wish add the -winmem statement to the command line it must come before
the "-game as" parameter or the game will revert to the default Quake levels.
That leaves one problem to be licked. There are not any servers on the
internet that support the AfterShock levels that I am aware of. At least
not until now. I have added an AfterShock Quake level server to one of our
five QuestGate Quake servers. It is called QuestGate IV, and the IP address
is 165.166.143.15 and runs on a T1 line. If you feel this is news worthy
please post the attached file and directions for the bug fixes on your page
along with the IP address for what could possibly be the only AfterShock
level Quake server currently on the internet.

Copy the following line into a batch file called q95as.bat and place it in
your Quake directory. Launch this file and then type the IP address for
QuestGate IV (165.166.143.15) in the IP address box under join a game\tcp-ip.
qlaunch quakeudp.dll quake.exe -mpath %1 %2 %3 %4 %5 %6 %7 %8 %9, -game as
